Can Mary who is married to James sue a woman who comes into Mary place of employment and tell everybody that she (the other woman) have a baby by James who is Mary's husband?

Is it true?

Was mary disciplined by the employer for it? or were there any negative provable consequences to mary?

Is this homework?

Yes. Anyone can sue anyone for anything.

Was that really what you intended to ask?

If you're asking whether Mary has any chance of succeeding, let's just make sure we understand the facts without using a single run-on sentence.

Mary and James are married. Some other woman (let's call her Anne) came to Mary's place of employment. Anne then proceeded to "tell everybody" (which I assume means all of Mary's co-workers) that she (Anne) has a child whose father is James.

Right? Is that about the long and the short of it?

If so, the answer is that Mary is unlikely to prevail on any lawsuit against Anne. However, other facts may change that answer. For starters, what sort of place of business is it? Is it true that Anne has a child whose father is James? Did Mary suffer any damages as a result of what Anne did (e.g., was she fired or otherwise disciplined by her employer or did she suffer any cognizable financial loss)? Why did Anne make this claim?
