Hi, recently we discovered some letters that were written by a individual that is acquainted with our family. These letters are sick and twisted perverse things that this individual is , wants , or plans on doing to my wife and daughter.Well its not that i don't know what to do its what can or will the police do for us on this matter before I handle it.I would just like a second opinion please because i really don't want to spend the rest of my life in prison for disposing of the problem. This person is definitely a threat to society and the law seems to let these freaks walk all the time.

Being a veteran you know how to use firearms. Being in Arizona you know that any law abiding adult citizen may carry a concealed firearm without a permit (although there are some advantages to having one).

At the very least, train your wife, and your daughter, in the safe handling of firearms, the Arizona gun laws, and the Arizona self defense laws so that your family will, at least, be safe in the home and your wife will have the option of carrying a small concealed firearm. There are lightweight large caliber pistols and revolvers that can make short work of an attacker.

You're obviously not going to hunt this lunatic down but deadly force is an option when life and limb are under attack.

When you report these letters to the police, make sure you give them copies, and keep the originals.

You might even consider taking out a restraining order. Seems like your family more than qualifies for that. Then he can be arrested just for writing another threat or making any kind of contact.
