Where do I file?

I reside in CA but my client resides in NY. Where should I file my claim?

If your claim isn't significant, forget it.

You'll have to go to NY to file a small claims case against a NY resident.

A CA court wouldn't be able to effectively serve a NY resident.

If your claim is significant, there is always federal court. But, expect your defendant to seek the case to be moved to NY, if you file in CA.


Sometimes you just gotta let things go.
