A debt collector sent me a letter in January telling me of a 4 year old $600 debt that I owed. I told them this is incorrect and that I do not owe that debt as I was a current customer with the company until this present year and they would not have allowed me to continue business with them if I had said debt.
While I gave the collector a verbal dispute of the debt I failed to give a dispute in writing within the 30 days. Neither companies can provide any verification of the debt. Do I have any recourse now that the 30 days have expired and I did not send a written notice (sadly of which I was unaware) according to the FDCPA?
