I'm a single mom of a beautiful three year old girl. Her father is a convicted felon who, even when he can, has made no attempt to see her in a long time. He doesn't call on her birthday, Christmas, or anything.
I've put my life together, am head over heals in love with the man of my dreams . . . and he loves her like she was his own. I want her father to sign over his rights so that we can be a family and he'll be gone.
My question is this: If I convince him to sign over his rights does he still have to pay child support? Understand that I don't want it. I don't want anything from him. But he won't sign over his rights unless he knows that it absolves him of any financial responsibility to her whatsoever. Can I put in the legal documents when he signs over his rights that I'm letting him go from all financial help or responsibility?
