ok i have posted a thread here before, but i really didnt get my question answered.
so i am thinking about emancipating my mother and moving to florida with my brother.( i live in NC.) and i wanted to kno if i HAD to take my mom to court? is there any other option i can do? besides that. i was wondering if i can basically in lamens terms give her a piece of paper to sign saying that i am leaving, and then im gone. i just want to kno the quickest and less painful option, without court.
thank you,
katelyn

Google Emancipation laws for your state (NC). There are multiple criteria you must meet if your state even allows it. Wanting to leave isn't a valid reason for the courts to grant an emancipation. Basically, you'll be a run-a-way if you give your mom a letter and leave. Court is the only option. You didn't say how old you are either, whether or not you have a job, or how you would plan to support yourself, how old your brother is and whether or not he is even willing to take you on.
