i was arrested for stealing less than $50. i bailed out for $200 and have to go to court. Walmart sent me this civil demand letter telling me to pay another $200 to them....what should i do? this is my first time to be in any kind of trouble.

i was arrested for stealing less than $50. i bailed out for $200 and have to go to court. Walmart sent me this civil demand letter telling me to pay another $200 to them....what should i do? this is my first time to be in any kind of trouble.

For the time being, do nothing with that letter.

Plead not guilty and ask for a lawyer to be appointed for you, or hire your own.

They'll probably offer you a deal, community service and deferred adjudication.
Take it, do the community service, take a class on honesty, and stay out of trouble for 6 months or a year.
Do what they tell you, an dthis goes away.
If it goes away, you don't owe Walmart a dime.
Make no confessions about this, and say nothing to anyone, until you get the deal, or get a lawyer.
