I m curious about a voice mail i recieved. a lady states her name and license # with the department of legal services from the county i live in them she says
"I am calling regarding a court order it looks like in reference to a complaint with 2 pending allegations pending to be filed and formalized against your name and social security number. you were scheduled for service or a process server attempted to come out to your residence or place of work. prior to being served we will need to get a billing address and statement of intent on file prior to the information being filed on public record."
    then she left her #...
is this most likely a debt collection or is it possible it could be a criminal indictment ?
    I appreciate your consideration.

Well, you would know if you have any debts that you defaulted on. Do you?

You would know if you've committed any criminal acts. Have you?

If the answer is no to both questions then I agree, probably a scam.

If the answer to both question is yes, then it's still a scam. It's a common scam. There is NO reason to call the number back.

Texas counties don't have what you term" department of legal services".

Furthermore, debts are collected GENERALLY via small claims courts in Texas.
Those inferior courts don't call defendants and ask them anything.
In fact, the court doesn't serve the defendant, a county constable, city marshal, or county sheriff serves defendants.
None of those agencies WARN the target.

Sniff Sniff Sniff, my olfactory senses detect the pungent, irritating stench of SCAM.

Never discuss legal matters with a potential adversary or scammer, especially via the telephone.

Then it might not be a scam. It might be a collection agency violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (google it).

You can certainly ignore it and wait and see what happens next.

I suggest you pull all three of your credit reports www.annualcreditreport.com and see if there are any collection accounts on them.

    OK. It's a scam, really.

    But I still recommend caution.

    Fair enough.

But the OP shouldn't call the number back. Or, if he does, he should read up on the links I provided so that he can know to hang up when (not if) the first sign of a scam surfaces.

Did you notice that the voicemail that the OP quoted doesn't mention his name at all. OP could call and give his name as Phillip Meekarup (or some other made up, but realistic-sounding name) and see if they proceed as if that is who they were trying to contact all along.

He could also record the conversation (legal in TX without consent of the other party) and have some fun with whoever is on the other end.

Many people across the country get the same call daily. I have gotten this same call in the past.
Best thing to do is ignore it.
Nothing good will come from calling back.

Nothing starts with phone calls. If you had legal action, you'd have paper delivered to you.

How do you not know that's a scam? That's 100% a scam. Just delete the message and go on with your life.
