If I were you, I'd take the vehicle and all documentation provided immediately to my local police station, or to the police agency in the town, city, or county in which you purchased the vehicle.

The police will direct you accordingly.

It's possible though not probable that a clerical error occurred at sometime in the past when (if) the vehicle was sold at auction in the past for example. Most likely though there is criminal activity involved such as the vehicle might have been stolen. We really don't know.

Definitely report it to the police - generally though local police make a report & that's about it. They may refer you to the DMV for assistance.

I don't guess you asked the dealer if they had an explanation.
