I entered into a verbal agreement with a contractor to perform various services on my property. He verbally provided me an amount, which "could be adjusted" if I provided some assistance. After two days of his attempts at performing the services I terminated our agreement and decided I would find someone else to perform the work. I did pay him for the portion of work that he did complete. He has threatened to file a lien on my property if I don't pay him the "remainder of the contract" which amounts to around $500. Three things about him 1: He is not a licensed contractor in the state of Washington. 2: He is not even a licensed business owner in the state of Washington. 3: He is not bonded and insured. Does he have any legal grounds for filing a lien? My thoughts are that he can't do anything, and due to the dollar amount involved very few attorneys are interested in my case so its difficult to find out "for sure".
