I interviewed for a job in October 2007. During that interview it was stated: We want to send the person who takes this job to a workshop and would ask that they stay for a minimum of 2 years or if they leave before 2 years reimburse us for the cost of the workshop. Would you be willing to do this if you were hired?

I did accept the job and now work for the company. This issue was not brought up again upon me being hired nor was I asked to sign anything regarding the workshop or reimbursing the company.

(I am not sure if this impacts the answer, but the workshop and related travel expenses were paid for by a Federal grant the company recieved for employee training.)

If I choose to leave before 2 years are up, can the company make me reimburse them for the cost of the workshop?

Verbal contracts are binding athough tough to prove. I suspect they will attempt to do so and your admission of knowledge of said agreement could be enough to win. I suggest to avoid costly legal expenses you stay the two years
