I was pulled over this morning for going 81mph in a 65mph highway. I work the night shift at the hospital and I was very tired and honestly just didn't realize. I know...no one cares about excuses. I'm in the military so I understand that. So with that said I was honest to the trooper and he could have gave me a reckless driving charge but he didn't. Very nice guy actually. That aside the fine isn't that much and I don't really care to contest it. The only issue I have is the points. He said 3 points would go on my license and with my out date for the military coming up I had touched base with several police departments about joining and becoming a cop myself. I'm worried these points are either going to doom me for these jobs or outright just disqualify me which makes a pretty minor offense into a pretty major personal crisis. I told the officer this and he recommended that I send a letter in with my driving history to the judge (not sure if I have to plead guilty or not guilty for this) in an appeal to reduce the point valuation. I have a clean driving history other than one speeding warning in Georgia over a year ago (no points) and I have a favorable reputation in my home community as a volunteer EMT-B (which I don't think matters but people seem to think so on Facebook). I'm reading online that the judge really doesn't read these letters. PA does not offer a driving school for point reduction.

So I just want to know what you guys think. I don't think I can fight it...and I don't think I have any real ground to fight it. However is it worth sending a letter in to appeal as suggested? Does the judge actually read these things?? If it's worthwhile I'm just going to mail my ticket in with my payment as the ticket instructs me to do, the letter, and a certified driving history showing I have no driving history from PA. Do I stand any chance?

I know I'm in the wrong and I'm just trying to do some damage control at this point. Any advice given is very much appreciated. I know it's Thanksgiving so I hope you all have a wonderful holiday.

Traffic school, if you can do it, traffic school will make it ALL disappear.
It only costs $25.00 a pop, and you can do it online.

It's so easy, even a cave man can do it!!!!

Your post header says VA, but you mention PA.

If PA, hire a lawyer, it's worth paying him $500-$1,000 to save $2,000-$2,500 insurance increases, plus $500-$1,000 in fines, fees, court costs, perhaps.

You wanna be a cop, too, so invest in yourself.

I think PA also offers deferred adjudication, ask the persecutor or judge, or the lawyer you hire (if you're smart).

If possible (in my opinion), I would hire a lawyer. The lawyer should be able to get you the best outcome possible - he/she will tell you all of your options & hopefully get this dismissed. Good luck.

I have a PA license but a VA Speeding ticket. It's a tad confusing. Just think this...I have a PA license, I pay PA Taxes, and I have a PA plate....but due to the military I live in VA and that's where I got the ticket. Consider me an out-of-stater who got a ticket in VA because I'm pretty sure it's the same situation.

I did see the traffic school option but I was confused by it. Due to whatever that pact thing the points will transfer to my PA license. PA does not accept traffic schools. So I automatically assume I cannot take a traffic school because of the PA law. Is that true?

Thanks. I have emailed 2 of them this morning but of course it's Thanksgiving and I wont get a reply until tomorrow or even the next time they open (monday perhaps). I think the lawyer will actyually cost more than the ticket because the ticket is only going to be $96...however still worried for the reasons above.

You can take a traffic school in VA.
Gogle it!!!

If the offense qualifies, you do the online school, the other stuff required by the court, it NEVER gets reported.

It ALL gets wiped away, like it never even happened!!

In VA, you can also request DEFERRED ADJUDICATION from the court.

It costs more, but it gets wiped Len, if you get no theys during the probationary time, about 90 days.
It snt supervised, you don't need a lawyer.
You pay for the privilege, stay ticket free, your original ticket is dismissed, presto, NO RECORD!!!
