Hi, I sold a used car ( my personal car) about 2 weeks ago. The new owner called me and said that the car blew the engine and caught on fire. He is seeking compensation for his losses. Am I liable in any way?

Why should you be? Unless you warranted the car the new owner takes it as is as well as the risk that the car may fail at some time in the future. Additionally, who is to say that the new car owner wasn't the one at fault for causing his car to catch on fire? This sounds like someone looking for another person to pay for an unfortunate occurrence that will cost him...
