Hello all,
I am in need of some advice. Last year my parents passed away. I hired a CPA. When I asked him how much he would charge he said $400 to $600. I agreed to that. Nothing was put in writing. When he was finished he sent me a bill for $1800. I called and protested and reminded him of what he told me, to no avail. I then made out a check for $600, wrote paid in full on it and mailed it to him. He cashed it about a week later. Can he now comeback and sue me? What is the statue of limitations for something like this? If he does sue me do I have a case?

Thanks

At this point, he would have the burden of proving you agreed to the price he billed you. Without a written contract, it is near impossible, especially when he cashes a check that said "paid in full".

I don't think you have much to worry about. If he does serve you with a lawsuit, be sure to respond to it. He has alot of convincing to do.
