I have had to miss some days at work due to a family member's illness. My teenage sister had to have a kidney transplant and have to have dialysis every night. I have no more sick time at work and now im up for termination, they are aware of my situtation. I did try for FMLA but it was denied, was covered for siblings (other for a sister). I want to know if I will be able to get unemployment in Tennessee.

Thanks

A sister is not a qualified beneficiary or dependent under FMLA so the denial was correct - just so you know.

Only the state UI office can tell you if you are eligible for UI. There is no cost to apply and no penalty for being wrong. Look at it this way, if you apply, you may and you may not get it; if you do not apply, you will definitely not get it.

In my opinion, if you have provided us with all the facts, it is LIKELY that you will be eligible. Please note that my opinion is not binding on the TN UI commission and that my opinion and $2 will get you a cup of coffee.
