My husband and I will have been married one year on April 19th of this year. I am desparately trying to get a divorce. He was abusive and adulterous. He has said that he won't contest the divorce, and I chose adultery for the cause. I tried the do-it-yourself divorce papers by downloading them, because I don't have the money for a lawyer, and now I have a long document with a bunch of state-specific forms in it, and I don't know what to do at this point. The document contains a summons, but I don't want to go to court, and neither does he. Do we have to go to court? I am no longer living in the state we were married, so how do I go about filing? Would I be better off trying to find a lawyer? And can I hire a lawyer in the state I live in now or do I have to get one from the state I was married in? I know absolutely nothing about this process, I just want this divorce done nd behind me so I can move on with my life.
