My jurisdiction is: Ohio

My 18 year old son received a call from a friend who is under 18 asking him to pick him up and run some errands for him. My son said he did not have the gas money to do this but the boy said he would give him gas. It turns out his friend was using a credit card he had just stolen. The investigator said he would be turning this over to the prosecutor. I am wondering what type of charge my son may be charged with. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I think you should stick to common sense. If your son had no idea of what was happening, then the most he will likely have to do is repay the cardholder the amount in gas that was stolen. If your son was an accomplice to fraud, then he will face serious charges. The court will determine to what extent your son knew what was going on by examining your son's friendship and the circumstances around the fraud. Also, there is federal law that governs credit card fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1029).
