I'm from New York. I met a lady online from a social media site in July 2015 who lives in Denver, Colorado, who I made a loan to in late August 2015 for $378.00 to pay for a past due bill on a storage unit that she had in Texas that she shared with her ex husband, in which he left to expire and she wanted to save because of the family mementos she had in there that she didn't want to lose. She stated to me that she had a short term disability payment that was due to her for $6800 that she was going to receive on September 5, 2015 and would pay me back my money. As the time went from when I made the loan to her up until September 5th, she started slowly blocking me on the site and blocking my phone calls and text messages so I would like to know how I can seek remedy regarding getting my money back from her. I have her name and her town but not her address in Colorado. What would I need to proceed in getting this done? Would I need to find her address? Will I need to start the small claim in Colorado? I'm just pissed that somebody takes advantage of people's generosity in helping them out and feels that they don't have to pay back. Thank you for any advice that I can use to make this wrong, right.

It will cost you more in fees plus, your time and aggravation to even attempt to file a claim. Even if you win a judgment in small claims court, they don't collect for you. Chalk it up to experience, it happens all the time.

It's not a good idea to make a loan to someone you met online only a month or so ago. I agree that for the amount of the loan it would not be worth pursuing.

Yes, you'll have to sue her (could be a he, or a transgender) in Colorado small claims. There are people who "SCAM" their living doing just what she, he, or whatever did to you. They set up sad scenarios to unsuspecting people. They "con" a few hundred bucks and move on. Many of these CROOKS work in small syndicates, it's their self employment hustle. In many instances, the gang isn't in the USA. Sorry, nothing you can do, mate except say SORRY, NO CAN DO.
