I am a server (waitress) at a restaurant in raleigh north carolina. The management has decided that the wait staff now has to "tip out" 10% of ALL tips received on a shift to the bartender, and 5% of ALL tips received to the hostess/busser. I have worked at other restaurants where I was required to tip out 2% of net sales to the hosts/bussers and 3% of alcohol sales to the bartender. That was reasonable. I want to know if it is legal for the restaurant to require that I give them 15% of my income!! I have not been able to find the appropriate statute, etc that covers this subject. Help!
