Threats from ex boyfriend

I am writing this on behalf of a friend. She dated someone that lives in Italy but has American visa of some sort. He is abusive and controlling. He hacked into her phone some how and has stolen email and embarrassing pictures. He threatens her with emailing them to all her prospective employers and contacts.

Hacking into her phone should be a crime, right? Is there a restraining order that can stop him from blackmailing her to continue this relationship?

There are laws, but don't expect any of those useless laws to be of much value.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's chatter about "revenge porn laws", but try and report this great act of stupidity to the authorities.

Your best offense is a great defense, don't take embarrassing pictures and give them to anyone.

Why on earth do people, ESPECIALLY women let some bullying thug talk them into doing this nonsense?
