Threat via Instant Message

I received a threat from an acquaintence of mine over MSN messenger. The exact threat is, "and i rather not have to take things to the point of any type of pain, but you need to understand, that if [we] feel threatend, then i will have to." The "we" referred to is a group of friends that I disrespected in a fit of anger. I was wondering what my legal options would be if I wanted to file a complaint with the local police. Both of us are minors.

Sorry, forgot to mention that neither this guy or myself have anything on our records, to my knowledge. He is also known to be threatening and frequently carries weapons including a multi-purpose knife. Once I know of my options, I may go to our high school liason officer to file what I need to file with the police.
