My mother passed away one month before she received her Homestead Rebate Check. Does this now become part of her estate? Also, will a Security Deposit from her former apartment complex become part of the estate?
Just one more question- My mother and I both had a joint bank account. After she died I removed her name from the account. Can creditors for her debts take any money from that account?
Technically no, not without a court order stating that the funds (or some of them) are really hers, but banks have been known to permit some strange things.
