Step Parent Adoption

I have a question I hope somebody can help me with. My husband and I wish to have him adopt my oldest child. Her father passed away when she was 8 months old. I know that the other parents right have to be terminated but in this case what would happen? Would I still need a lawyer to handle the adoption?

Although you don't have to terminate rights, you will still need an attorney to handle the adoption.
