Statute of Limitations - custody interference

A friend divorced her abusive ex-husband over 15 years ago. He managed to get joint custofy of their 3 girls. My friend re-married, had another child with current husband. My friend, her husband, and the four girls decided to move back to New Zealand to get away from the abusive ex. He said he filed charges against her for taking the girls back to New Zealand (she and her 3 older daughters are native New Zealanders) without his permission. She wants to find out if she can return to the US/California with her current husband and not be deported or go to jail. All 3 girls are grown and married now and want nothing to do with their biological father. Any ideas how to find out if she's clear?

The statute of limitation stops if she flees the country. So when she comes back it is just like it was the day she left. I must admit, I have no sympathy for your friend who selfishly denied her girls access to their father. She may or may not have charges pending here, but she SHOULD have charges pending.

Your friend had no business moving the kids out of the country. She should be charged with custodial interference and/or kidnapping. The statute of limitations does not expire for these crimes.
