My wife recently one an SSDI Appeal and was awarded back benefits. We had an attorney represent us and the attorney fee was the usual 25% or $6k whichever is smaller and they got their $6K fee (they did a great job). It was automatically deducted from my wife's award check from SSI. We also have a healthy 7 year old dependent son and SSDI is processing the back pay portion for him separately. Since we met the $6k maximum fee, and his portion of the award is part and parcel of my wife winning her appeal, will or can the attorney look to get another 25% for his benefit. Keep in mind my wife's benefits were the only benefits adjudicated, the dependent portion is just automatic.
