I apologize if this is not in the correct forum but I was unable to locate one that might be appropriate. This question pertains to the State of Massachusetts.

Is it illegal in the State of Massachusetts to have a caller on speaker phone without the consent or knowledge of the caller? Massachusetts is a two-party State but I do not know if this would apply to a speakerphone as well.

I was on a call with a friend and only found out later that he had put his cell on speaker for two other individuals to hear. I was never informed before he did this.

Thank You!

As long as no recording was going on, it certainly sounds legal.

The assorted wiretapping and privacy laws generally have to deal with capturing communications by way of some technology, not listening.

If you operate under an assumption that any call, email, or text you send can and will be disseminated to others, then you will find that you will be less inclined to say something that might come back to haunt you later.
