I work at a hotel front desk and recently found out that our camera now records voice. I think this is an invasion of privacy as employees talk among themselves during downtime---and often about personal matters. Also, sometimes guests will disclose information to a front desk agent (e.g., they are checking in because there has been a domestic dispute, etc.), which means not acknowledging the fact that there is an audio recording device in use is an invasion of their privacy as well. Is it legal for my boss to record my conversations without my consent?

Electronic recording laws often aren't in sync with real life developments in many cases.
Raising a ruckus about this might create other issues for you.
It would appear that capturing voice with video monitoring is prohibited in NJ.

I suggest you discuss this with a local attorney BEFORE moving on it.
This could be a stinker.

It appears NJ requires the person recording audio to be present, thereby giving his r her consent.

The owner is doing this in his property.

The issue will be if that is consent?

This looks as if you'll require precedent, as in a prior ruling or court case.
Hence, another reason to discuss this with an attorney in your state.
A smart person might get a legal opinion from an attorney in writing before proceeding.

Another option might be to inquire of the local prosecutor, before approaching your boss.

The cameras may have microphones on them, but is the DVR set up to record sound as well as video?
