My jurisdiction is: Ontario, CANADA
Hello to all,
My mother adopted her brothers daughter and brought her from an island in the caribbean to Canada this was in 2002 she is therefore legally responsible for her for ten years (till 2012) she was 16 years of age when all documents and papers had been offically signed validated. However shortly after this happened she decided to drop out of highschool, and 'hang out' on the street alot, eventually we noticed that her behaviour had changed and she didn't seem happy, she opted to go back home to her mother, and we bought her a ticket and did so. To our family's surprise she returned to Canada and said she was moving out, and so she did. in 2004 a letter was 'put' (not delivered) in our mailbox missing forms that were implied as enclosed and just the front letter, this letter stated that if my mother wanted her to recieve social assistance (welfare) to fiill out the enclosed forms (which were not there), ever since 2007 my mother has been recieving letters stating that she must pay $560 per month for this child we havn't really heard from since? I've been told that as of today she owes the government $7000.
she does not know how to slove this situation and all the aparent 'rude' case worker said is that a professional has said that it isn't safe for her to live in our home? nobody has even came to our home.
Everything seems choppy but believe me that is exactly how things are happening, and I need to help my mother because she wasn't born in Canada and doesn't know the ropes. Right now things are seeming quite unjust.
Please help!!
