Our small company received a personal check for our servies that was returned twice by our bank indicating, "Non-Sufficient Funds". We contacted the client and he refuses to make the check good and has now closed his bank account. We are filing a small claims suit to recover. Is the amount of the small claims action just the amount of the check plus bank charges or is there also a "punitive" amount, say double the amount of the non-sufficient fund check received?

For items like this you will likely need to consult the law in your jurisdiction. As is highly recommended here (and which so many just ignore) your state and county is typically most important in answering legal questions.
