Small claims counterclaim

I filed my Answer and Counterclaim but forgot to pay counterclaim fee. Since the clerk didn't ask it totally slipped my mind. At the beginning of the hearing he notified me and said he can only treat it as a answer.
Since the case was continued can I still pay the counterclaim fee?
