I have written a book that is basically about some trouble I got into. I have changed all the names and alot of the circumstances, but a lot of the events actually happened. I have been told that even tho the book is fiction, if anyone recognizes themselves in the book, they can sue me. Is this true? Even if I put a disclaimer at the front of the book saying it is fiction? There is a publisher who loves the book an wants to publish it, but I don't want to spend all my royalties fighting law sutes.

Ask the publisher if your disclaimer is acceptable.

If it is, go for it.

There is no guarantee that someone won't sue you, but they'll be very unlikely to recover.
