Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Shoplifting, First Time Offender, Under $150, in the State of PA

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Pennsylvania
I did admit to the police saying that i did take those merchandise under value of $30, first time offender, in the state of PA, stupid mistake... and even when the police asked me why i did that, i said i don't know, my mind was illed i guess...
so now i'm considering if i should see a therapist, i really hate that i did it and can anybody suggest some way to help me in court? if it requires me any community services, i'd def serve fully, i hope to have the case dismissed...

and do i have to hire a lawyer to get this case dismissed? or can i defend myself, my income level can afford a lawyer but i have already done a lot of research and wonder if i can defend myself and get the case dismissed?
 
Don't forget that the court will appoint a lawyer for you if you can't afford one. Fore petty matters like this it is usually reasonable.

thanks for your replies...can someone tell me the best possible outcome? like, case dismissed at the district court, qualify for the ARD and go on probation, after probation the record will be removed?/or do i have to petition for expungement?

i had phone consultations with 2 attorneys but since my court date is not scheduled yet, they said call them back when i have the court date, but i wanted to time my court date(aslo i'd like to ask if this is possible??? say, i'll submit request to court) since i have a planned travel overseas... anyone can help answer some of my questions above? thanks a lot!!
