Service car stolen from my lot....am I liable?

A customer's car was stolen from my dealership and apparently the thief hit a couple of parked cars during his joy-ride.

The car was being worked on as a 'side-job' by my mechanic and not under any sort of service agreement between the dealership and the owner of the vehicle. No service repair order was signed.....nothing accepting OR denying responsibility was ever put in writing.

The owner is now attempting to claim that we (the dealer) is responsible for the damages the thief did to her car along with the damage to the parked cars being that the car was stolen off of my lot.

Are we, in fact, liable in any way for this?

Any insight or help is greatly appreciated!!!

(This is in the state of Illinois by the way).
