I'm opening up a photography studio/gallery in a few months and I'd like to sell MLB and NFL prints in there. I've got in contact and met with a large memorabilia store in the area. They buy the rights to the photos from the photographers, print the photos and sell them in their store and to others in the area. I'd like to start working with them, but I'd also like to know if I'm asking for a lawsuit from the NFL. It kind of seems like a grey area.

That's a good question. I'm guessing that the photos are licensed for a certain purpose. Did you ask them whether the photographers have the rights necessary to grant you for the purpose of printing them on clothing?

The NFL is extremely vigilant about receiving compensation. It's not a gray area for you to exploit. Start by determining the license rights the photgraphers can provide to you. Are these regular people who took pictures using a pocket camera at a game?
