classified employees are allowed to speak spanish using our work radios
a lot of employees do not understand spanish
this has become a saftey issue and is starting to create
a hostile work environment and has already resulted
in one non speaking spanish employee to receive a written reprimand (warning) yet when the director of operations
our boss is asked about the employees speaking spanish on our work radios pertaining to our job
he says there is nothing he can do about it. Its makes it worse when most but not all of the employees
speak english We must carry a radio while working how do i listen to spanish all day. this is wrong

The term, hostile work environment, has a very specific meaning in employment law, and having your co-workers speaking Spanish when you cannnot understand it does not come even remotely close to meeting it.

Although an employer MAY require English-only in the workplace, they are not required to. They are NOT permitted by law to require English-only on breaks or lunch periods. If most of the employees are Spanish-speaking, it may make more sense to allow it in the workplace. There is nothing whatsoever illegal in the employer allowing it. If you don't want to listen to Spanish being spoken, find a job where no one speaks anything but English.

The last time i looked this was the united states one common language english. Why dont they find a job where
every one speaks spanish? Its only a matter of time before some one gets hurt due to misunderstanding
besides its rude and unprofessional to speak spanish if everybody there does not understand spanish, Thats
the problem with country people like you are narrow minded
