I have two children aged 9 and 10 at school and they rely on a council bus to bring them home as we live 9 miles away. There is no register taken for this bus so sometimes my children miss it. Equally if the after school club is cancelled, no notice is given to us as parents, instead relying onthe children to let us know. In the UK the age of responsibility is 12 ie for being left alone in the house, 13 overnight. As a result of this policy of not informing me and relying on the children to notice/hear a club has been cancelled, my child has missed the school bus for a non-existent club, only to be stranded outside school. My friend working in education believes this is a transgression of S5 of the Education Act and certainly other schools in the area with this age group do not have this policy. Any advice please?
