We reside in Florida, my husband and I had a friend move into our home with a verbal agreement to pay us rent on a month to month basis. After 5 months she began to fall behind paying later and later and then quit paying at all. After almost 3 months of non-payment we confronted her and asked about payment we thought in a friendly manor. She became very angry and left, that was nearly 2 months ago. She has not returned for any of her belongings including her cat. After several attempts to contact her via voice mail and texting she will not respond. I have even contacted a friend of hers to make sure she was ok who confirmed that he had seen her recently. How long should we hold her belongings in our home now that she is 5 months behind in rent? What should our next step be to remove her belongings? Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

You will need to evict her for abandonment.

Google "eviction of tenant abandoning rental FL"

You've just begun to see how complicated this is.
Some people PAY the deadbeat $200 or so, to make the nightmare end.
BTW, you're responsible for safekeeping her junk.

If you're smart, never do this again.

It's a legal nightmare to get out of it.
