requesting vacation time under false pretences

one of my employees requested a month off vacation, his reason was that he wanted to go and visit his girlfriend in Australia, my bar manager granted him the time off. later I found out that he was actually taking the time off to look for another job, and in case he did, he was just not going to show up to work or even call, basically he was going to leave me short handed. can this be grounds for termination?
 
In most cases yes. You can fire anyone for any reason, in most states.
