repayment of signing bonus

The offer letter from my current employer stated that I would receive a signing bonus of $5,000 and if I left them prior to completing one year of service I must return the signing bonus. I signed that. Now it has been three month passed and I decide to leave. Do I need to return the signing bonus to the company? At the end of the letter, it says that this letter is not intended to be and should not be construed as an employment contract. Rather, the letter is provided as a summary of the terms and conditions of employment that you can expect while you are employed with us. We're in MA.

If you do not return the bonus expect them to sue you for that and more

But they said that's not a contract. What does that mean?

Tell you what dont take my word for it and wait for the process server to come to your door and serve you with law suit!
