Repair money in escrow

Hello. I recently sold my home and part of the deal was that I would pay for a new roof. I had a bid from a roofer but he could not start the job before closing so I put the money on hold in escrow to be paid when complete. The other day I found out that escrow has an invoice from the roofer and they have paid him but no roof work has been done. I put money aside for work to be done not as a credit to the buyer. Do I have any rights to complain and/or be refunded. Originally I contacted escrow to get a receipt for the roof for my next years taxes but when they told me the funds were released the day after closing I knew something was not right.

Your only recourse is against the roofer who got paid and didn't to the work.

What conversations have you had with the roofer about this?

If none, I suggest you get started and get it resolved before the buyer comes after you for the money and you end up paying twice.
