Remove an Executor from an estate/will

There are only four living blood relative's to my grandfather's estate and one very old will which names his friend executor. His friend is old, sick (heart problems and a possible addiction to pain medicine), unreliable and lives in another state, which means we'd have to fly him down every time needed. So far we can never contact him or his lawyer and they don't return phone calls, they only call us when they need something, which has been once.

Is there any way we, the heirs, can remove him as executor? We have hired a lawyer and my grandfather has only been gone for a week, so we still have to probate the will. If anyone could please let me know the steps of removing an executor or a will, I'd greatly appreciate it.
