Received a summons, need help

Ok, so i was in a motor vehicle accident this past Saturday ( June 6, 2009) i was issued a summons to appear in court, the officer assured me it was NOT a criminal offense, so today i received a letter in the mail changing the date of my appearance and saying

State of Connecticut
V.
My Name Here

The above entitled action has been reassigned to
June 26, 2009 at 10:00 AM for Arraignment.
Your appearance in court is required on the date
and time noted above.

I'm so confused and need to know if this has been changed to a criminal case and if i will need a lawyer, I've never been issued a summons before and don't really know how this works, any help is greatly appreciated!
