Starting a Business Re-Using an Old Name

Is it possible to dissolve an existing charitable organization and then start up a new 501c4 organization using the same name? Assets are less than $1000 in the existing organization.

Why not use the same organization?

You can, but you may not establish a new entity of any sort under the a "non distinguisable" name until the full administrative dissolution of the previous entity is completed.

But to continue the point that AJ is making, it is possible to reorganize the existing entity to change it enough to adopt the new tax status.

Should not be a problem. The date of incorporation is one of the fields used on the EIN application.
