I recently received a letter from a law firm informing me that i have a judgement against my credit for $4500.00 and they want to collect. i did a lil enquires and found out that it was posted in Queens County civil court sometime in 2009 unknown to me. i did recall having a citibank account sometime in 2000 but it was closed since 2002 because of economic reasons. it was also discovered that the original debt was $1699.42. this was done in my absence, i was never summoned to court to address this...Is there anything i can do to fix this?

Many of these "judgments" are obtained by unscrupulous collections agencies under rather dubious circumstances.
It appears that this might be ONE of those cases.
You can attempt to get the judgment vacated.
It appears the case was filed surreptitiously, you weren't served, and the SOL on credit card debt had run!

Credit card debt has a SOL of 6 years in NY state.
It seems the SOL had tolled, and you were screwed in the process, a year or two later!
