property sold with lein

I had put a lein on a home that i had painted and never received payment for. The owner turned around and sold the property. I do not understand how property can be sold with a lein on it. I do not understand how a deed can be given or money borrowed on the property with an active lein. Can someone shed some light on this subject.

Are you sure your lein appears on a title search? The new owner now has the lein, thats probably all I can say. If they bought the house with the lein on it, they now have the lein. It is possible they did not get title insurance on it.

A lein can often be "bonded" off. In most states you also have to file a lawsuit or the lein is no good. Have you researched the lein laws in your state or consulted with an attorney?
