I rented a car for a friend and he owes me money for this. He said he would pay me back by the time I needed it. He hasnt. I have his laptop and want to sell if for the money he owes me. I normally wouldnt do that but I need my medicine and he isnt paying me back. Is it illegal for me to do this? I thought possession was 9/10 of the law? He says he can have me arrested for this. Is that true?

He's right. Possession is not 9/10ths of the law. It is better than many things, but it is not better than ownership. Your friend owns the laptop, and you cannot sell it against his wishes.

That said, he owes you a legitimate debt. I'm sure you two reasonable people can work something out.
