If a person that was arrested for a crime and was processed but not yet convicted, do the police have the authority to tell the public who the person is or what vehicle this person was driving to the point where the neighbors could figure out who it was?

The issue is this person is being accused of the same crime committed by another party and it is causing an uproar in the neighborhood. Almost like a vigilante situation. This is not a sex crime, but is a felony theft.

Arrests can be made public. Nothing wrong with that.
No civil issues that could come from this? This is more of a morality issue over legality?

To be honest with you, we took this person who is over 18 who's parent kicked him out and he was on the verge of killing himself. We just want the police to watch their P's and Q's to keep the peace in the neighborhood. Now they started this thing where everyone is talking and he has nothing to do with it. He is being convicted of other people's crimes right now and it sucks. We cannot do anything?
