Please Help...

I had a tenant who signed a six month lease after it expired 5 months ago it went to a month to month, 2 weeks after he moved in I allowed him to have a roomate who never signed a lease. He called yesterday and said he is now living in Las Vegas and wants to end the lease as soon as possibly. He is at least still responsible for the rest of this month and maybe next month because he didnt give me a 30 day notice and I'm not sure if he can end a month to month lease in the middle of the month, I havnt received this months rent yet and it is past due. His roomate is still up stairs, can I kick him out or do I have to evict him? Im not sure what Connecticut law is. Please need some advice. TY
