ive been a permanent resident for 8 years now in ca...i got a misdemeanor for petty theft..recently..and i still have to go to court...they say most likely im lookin at a fine or probation or a combination of both. this is my first offense. now if i pay the fine or do probation and expunge the misdemeanor..is it gonna affect my application for citizenship?? please help..this has got me worried now.

You cannot establish good moral character with a CIMT conviction during the statutory period. If you're convicted in any way or plead guilty or nolo, your new statutory period will begin on the day you committed the offense (this is the "stopping the clock" rule). If you commit another CIMT you can forget about citizenship and start thinking removal.
