Can landlords after 5 years of allowing you to own a pet take away that right? We own a trailer but rent property.
Yours is a unique situation.
You own the home in which you reside.
However, you rent the property upon which your home rests.
I suggest you first start by reading all documents related to the lease you possess.
Does the lease (or whatever name it is known as) say anything about your right to have pets in your home?
Does the trailer park have RULES about owning pets?
Please feel free to return when you get yourself up to speed.
Pets are special to their owners, but the law classifies pets as property.
The more precise issue has to do with your leasehold, and what you're entitled to do while you lease the property.
In Kansas a landlord may demand a security deposit for pets not to exceed one-half of one month's rent.
That could very well the reason for the change.
(§§ 58-2550(a))
Statute | Kansas State Legislature
You might want to talk to the landlord or her/his agent about the new decree.
It might be in response to a local ordinance not allowing pets in trailer parks.
It is always best to talk to the other party to learn all you can about changes to existing rental agreements.
That said, when does your lease expire?
Are you on a month to month (tenancy at will) lease?
